The house

A private place, grown over centuries.

There has been a building here since 1225, first a moated castle called Castrum Ricklingen. The present house dates from the eighteenth century and stands in Schloss Ricklingen, which is the name of the district of Garbsen, and it is the name of the house. Half-timbered wings around a courtyard, and behind them 84,000 square metres of park, two ponds and meadows that only stop at the horizon. Drive through the gate and up the avenue and you have arrived at a different speed.

Today there are fourteen apartments and suites: for a night, a week or a month. That is the difference from a hotel room: your own kitchen, a table to eat at, often a terrace. And still everything a serviced house provides.

Arrival

You arrive when you arrive.

There is no desk to wait at. Your code reaches you beforehand and the key safe is staffed around the clock, by the technology. Whenever it can be arranged, your host welcomes you herself and shows you the house. If it cannot, everything you need for the first evening is already there.

Check-in from 3 pm, check-out until 10.30 am, breakfast from 7.30 to 10 am in the breakfast room. Arriving earlier or leaving later is possible: a check-out until noon can be added for a fee.

One note that saves you a lap: the entrance is not at the main gate but on the side road to the left of it. From there it leads into the park and straight to your apartment.

Staying longer

Three large suites for weeks rather than nights.

Every unit can be booked for one night or for a month. Guests who stay longer usually take one of the three large suites in the house at the pond: more rooms, a desk of your own and enough space that weeks do not start to feel narrow. They carry bird names as well, and the black swans really do swim in front of the terrace of number 14.

For longer stays we agree the rate personally: simply write and tell us how long you would like to stay.

The park

A park where animals are at home too.

Alpacas, chickens and quail live on these 84,000 square metres, geese, ducks and black swans on the ponds, and an apiary whose honey stands on the breakfast table. All of it is at least three hundred metres from the apartments: you walk over when you feel like it, and notice nothing of it when you do not.

For many guests the round through the park is the best part of the day. Feeding the alpacas, watching the swans, strawberries and fruit from the garden. And then what comes of its own accord: deer on the meadow in the morning, storks in front of the terrace, now and then a fox, and once a beaver strolling unhurriedly from one pond to the other.

The morning

One long table and tables for two.

Breakfast from 7.30 to 10 am, included in every rate, even if you stay a single night. On the table: eggs from our own hens, honey from our own bees, freshly baked bread, pressed juices, ginger shots, fruit from the garden. Flowers, always.

Sit at the long table and you fall into conversation. Prefer your own company and you take one of the separate tables in the breakfast room, have the tray brought to your apartment, or eat in your own kitchen. Tell us what you need when you arrive: decaf, lactose-free milk, gluten-free bread, a vegan selection.

Wide meadows and field tracks around the Schlossresidenz

The day

Sauna, bathing pond, tennis court. No booking needed.

The sauna is ready around the clock; you switch it on yourself and it needs time to heat. The swimming pond is a natural bathing pond for house guests: no chlorine, a plant filter, a wooden deck at the entry. Gym and tennis court are open day and night: cross trainer, treadmill, Power Plate, ergometer, recumbent bike and mats.

Add table tennis outdoors, a nature trail through flowers and herbs, the beehives in the park and the grill hut. Cycling routes begin at the door, and bicycles can be borrowed at reception.

No surcharge, no key card, no booking. And the park is large enough to walk in for an hour without passing the same tree twice.

The evening

Fireplace, library, bar and a chessboard.

The ground-floor lounge is where, in the evening, you have nothing left to do. The fire burns through the cold half of the year and there is a bar in the lounge. Coffee and tea around the clock, cake in the cabinet, something to pick at with a nightcap. The library holds more books than remote controls.

Irina Fuhrmann.

This house is not administered, it is run. Irina Fuhrmann is the host, and she is the person guests mean when their reviews speak of the hostess. Whenever it can be arranged she welcomes guests herself, shows them the house and lays the table. With fourteen units that happens pleasantly often. It cannot be promised, and so it does not stand here as a promise.

What guests describe most often in their reviews is not the square metres but the small things: a jar of honey on the dining table, an upgrade on a wedding anniversary, help at the key safe at half past eleven at night. Beside her stands Wolfgang Fuhrmann, co-owner of the house. But the tone here is hers.

No restaurant in the house. But a neighbourhood that delivers.

Fourteen units do not carry a restaurant of their own, and a half-empty dining room would cost exactly the quiet our guests come for. So we solved it differently, and you should know that before you book, not when you arrive.

In the village and in GarbsenThere is no restaurant in the district itself, and you should know that. The nearest are in Garbsen and at the Blauer See: Bavaria Alm, L’Osteria, Azzurro The Beach. Then Kalimera in Hanover and the Wunstorfer Ratskeller. All by car, none on foot.

For a special eveningThe gourmet restaurant at Schlosshotel Münchhausen, the Schlossrestaurant Marienburg or the Bootshaus at the Maschsee, around half an hour each. The full list with driving times is on a page of its own.

Getting here

Twenty minutes by car. By helicopter, into the park.

From Hanover-Langenhagen airport it is fifteen to twenty minutes via the A352 and the A2, exit Garbsen Nord. From the city centre around twenty. And anyone arriving by helicopter lands not at the airport but here: our own landing site lies in the park, one hundred and fifty metres from the main entrance.

For exhibition and business guests it is the shortest route the region has to offer. Let us know in advance so the site is clear.

Schloss Ricklingen lies fifteen kilometres west of Hanover with its own motorway access on the A2. Meadows and field tracks begin in front of the house, and the Leine-Heide cycle route passes directly by.

Weddings, birthdays, company celebrations: if you wish, you book the Schlossresidenz for yourselves alone. Fourteen units for your guests, the long table for the evening, the park for the day after, and a breakfast that brings everyone together once more in the morning.

For weddings there is a team and an offer of its own: hire of the location, accommodation for your guests, a master of ceremonies, wedding design, suppliers arranged for you and catering, as full planning or only the parts you need.

What it costs depends on the number of guests, the season and your wishes. Write and tell us what you have in mind, and you will get a quotation calculated for your occasion.

Book here and you write and speak directly with the house. Special requests, a late arrival, a second pillow: we settle that without a platform in between. And because nobody in between takes a cut, the rate here is the best we can give.

Is there a restaurant in the house or in the village?

Not in the house, and that is a decision. There is none in the district of Schloss Ricklingen either. Breakfast is included, every unit has its own kitchen, cake and drinks are available all day, and the bar in the lounge is open to you on a self-service basis. We do not serve dinner in the house; for that you drive to Garbsen or to the Blauer See. Bavaria Alm, L’Osteria and Azzurro The Beach are our recommendations, along with Kalimera in Hanover and the Wunstorfer Ratskeller.

How do I get in if I arrive late?

Through the key safe. You receive the code by message before you travel and it is valid around the clock. In the apartment you will find a folder with everything you need for the first morning.

Can I cook for myself?

Every unit has a kitchen or kitchenette with a hob, a fridge and crockery. That is why stays of several weeks work well here.

What does parking cost?

Nothing. The spaces are directly at the house and there is a charging point for electric cars at the courtyard. Bicycles can be hired at reception.

Are pets allowed?

No, pets are not permitted.

How quiet is it in the evening?

Quiet hours apply in the house from 9 pm to 6 am, and the grounds are large enough that nobody hears their neighbour. Smoking is outdoors only, in the marked areas.

How and when do I pay?

The stay is paid in full at the time of booking, by credit card, PayPal or the other usual means. With fourteen units every booking is a firm plan, and so we hold it firmly. You can cancel free of charge until seven days before arrival.

What are the cancellation terms?

Free of charge until seven days before arrival. After that 50 per cent of the total becomes due. The Flex rate additionally allows free rebooking.

Is there a step-free apartment?

Yes: apartment 01, Diamantfasan. Please call us before booking and we will go through the details with you directly.

Can three of us come?

In most units, yes. The third guest costs €70 per person per night, breakfast included. Write to us and we will tell you which unit suits you.

Is there air conditioning?

No. The units under the roof can become warm on hot days; we are glad to put a fan in the room.

Are children welcome?

The Schlossresidenz is a quiet house, and most guests come for exactly that. Stays can be booked from twelve years of age. It is not a house for families with small children.
